# Add an Image Gallery to a Blog Post

Use a post image gallery when one image is not enough to tell the story. A gallery displays selected images as a carousel at the top of a blog post, before the post title and content.

## Before you begin

The Image Gallery editor panel must be enabled once for the website. You only need to do this step if you do not see **Hero Gallery** in a blog post’s settings sidebar.

1. In WordPress, go to **Settings → Writing**.
2. Find the **Post Image Gallery** section.
3. Check **Enable Editor Sidebar**.
4. Click **Save Changes**.

Open an existing blog post again, or refresh the editor. The **Hero Gallery** panel should now be available in the right-hand document settings sidebar.

## Add images to a post

1. Go to **Posts → All Posts** and open the post you want to edit.
2. Open the settings sidebar with the gear icon in the top-right corner, if it is closed.
3. In the **Post** tab, open **Hero Gallery**.
4. Click **Select Hero Images**.
5. Choose images from the Media Library, or upload new images.
6. Select every image you want in the carousel, then click **Select**.
7. Click **Update** or **Publish** to save the post.

## Arrange or remove images

After you select images, the Hero Gallery panel shows a preview list. Use **Move Up** and **Move Down** to set the slide order. Use **Remove** beside an image to take it out of the gallery without deleting it from the Media Library.

Use **Manage Hero Images** when you want to replace the selection or add more images. Use **Clear Hero Gallery** only when you want to remove every selected image from the post.

## What visitors will see

Posts with two or more selected images display a carousel at the top of the post. Visitors can move through the images using the on-screen controls or by swiping on a touch device.

If you select one image, the post displays it as a single hero image rather than a carousel.

## Helpful image guidelines

- Choose images that support the same story and look good together.
- Use landscape images when possible so the carousel has a consistent shape.
- Add useful alternative text to each image in the Media Library before publishing.
- Review the published post on desktop and mobile before sharing it.

## Troubleshooting

**I do not see Hero Gallery.** Confirm that you are editing a standard blog post, then check **Settings → Writing → Post Image Gallery** and make sure **Enable Editor Sidebar** is selected. Save the setting and refresh the post editor.

**I selected images but nothing changed on the site.** Click **Update** or **Publish** after making your selection. Then view the post in a new browser tab or private window to rule out a cached page.

**I only see one image.** Add at least two images to the Hero Gallery and update the post. One selected image intentionally displays as a static hero image.
